My Little Dollies

When I'm gone, who will love my dolls
that I made so many years ago?
When their dresses are old and dusty,
who will tie their pretty bows?

With their smiles so carefully painted,
and their cheeks blushed with cheer,
Who will cherish my little dolls
when I'm no longer here?

Their eyes I made of china paint,
gaze out with a lonely stare.
Who will love my little ladies,
that I made with so much care?

The little roses so neatly fashioned,
bloom in garlands on silk so fine,
And their hands so smoothly crafted,
by these tired hands of mine.

Perhaps in time now distant,
a great, granddaughter will see,
That my dolls are not just china,
but made with love for her by me.

And perhaps one day she’ll decide
that she would like to make her own.
That’s the day I’ll smile down on her
because my passion still lives on.
